How-to: Create Space Efficient Workspaces
January 11, 2011
It’s hard to find folks that don’t have to do some work while in the comfort of their own home, whether they’re lucky enough to work from home or whether they sometimes just have to finish projects up after hours. Unfortunately, the life of a workaholic doesn’t always gel with the life of someone who really wants a clean, aesthetically-pleasing space without all sorts of wires and “work” things sticking out.
Modern lovers rejoice! There’s an easy and simple fix for the problem of where to stick an office in a small space: make your workplace trappings as small and as efficient as possible! The key is to eschew a traditional desk in favor of a fold-able or sleek shelf or hanging cabinet, like in this brilliant Ikea Hacker project by a smart Mac user. They did a brilliant job creating a stream-lined workspace that has everything they need…real desk be darned.
You don’t just have to go with those Ikea objects either, what about some sleek floating shelves? Or a cool hanging cabinet? Get creative!
